Week 2 of PHL Division 3 has just wrapped up, and teams are starting to figure out what they have and what they need on their rosters. We have a three way tie for points at the top of the league, but one of those teams is hungry for more and wanted change. Meanwhile, the three teams at the bottom are starting to realize that the teams they drafted may not be as good as they hoped. Each deal we have seen has been one for one, but I can definitely see things getting shaken up across the league. Lets take a look at what they teams came up with!
Trade 1: Columbus Crusaders receive: Postmaster
Philadelphia Revolution receive: Rhubarb
Analysis: At a quick glance, this looks like an even swap for the most part. Neither player has produced at a world-beating level, but definitely can provide some utility for their team. Rhubarb was one of the more productive players in division 3 last year, and seems to be off to a bit of a slower start this season, paying more attention to other parts of his game, being registered as a flex player. As of writing this, Rhubarb has played 3 games as a skater with 1 goal and 1 assist, and played 0 games as a goaltender. Postmaster has played 5 games total at the time of this being written, with 0 goals and 0 assists so far.
Quotes: DJSnooze: "We already had our starting offense and he wasn’t very satisfied with being a backup it just didn’t work out."
OfficeLAMP: "I’d say the trade seemed like a win win for both sides and wanted to mix up the team and see what this new line up can generate."
Trade 2: Frostburgh Ice Daddies receive: Hotpocket
Drinkwater Storm receive: AARON
Analysis: The teams here are maybe looking to shake up their own offense a bit with a forward swap early in the season. Hotpocket saw some time in division 2 last season with mixed results and is looking to find his footing this season in division 3. Perhaps a change of scenery and a new offensive system and play time will do him well and the team will be able to find even more success. At the time of writing this article, hotpocket has 1 game played with 0 goals and 1 assist. Meanwhile, the Drinkwater Storm are picking up an undeniable talent in AARON. To the knowledge of the writer, AARON did not appear in the PHL last season and this is his first, so its clear hes trying to make a name for himself. Boasting a solid stat line of 3 games played, with 2 goals and 2 assists totaling 4 points, there is no doubt the Storm will have some much needed help up front.
Quotes: TheHairyW00kie: "Aaron is a phenomal player and with the Storm so low in the rankings I decided they needed some coaching from one our Ice Daddies to help bring some more competition for us. Hotpocket is such a great player and I didn't want to see him drown in that shipwreck so we decided to save him."
Inertia: Pending response
Trade 3: Port Stanley Stachios receive: Kgor
Winnipeg Icebreakers receive: Huzzington
Analysis: This is without a doubt the trade that is likely to be the most consequential over the remained of the season, with teams swapping top defensemen in the divisions most recent trade. Kgor's stats may appear lackluster so far in division 3, but whats important to note is that kgor is also a starting defender in division 2 with the Schuylkill Channel Cats, boasting a remarkable stat line of 1 goal and 9 assists totaling 10 points in 8 games played. On the flip side Huzzington was a division 2 draftee in season 1 but didn't see any playtime. In division 3 he played plenty seeing 15 games on the ice, totaling 2 points with 0 goals and 2 assists. Both players will be looking to contribute to their teams on both sides of the ice and give them a boost in the standings.
Quotes: Wren: "Nothing but love for huzzington but kgor will give us the strong defensive presence that will allow pastala to activate a little more. purely a trade to fit our system. nothing but love."
Ram: "The original talks were a bit rough, but glad it turned around and we managed to agree on the trade."
What do you think about the season so far, and how do you think the trades will pan out for all teams involved? Let us know in the discord or comments on the blog, and keep an eye out for more coverage of division 3 hockey!
